Kia EV Sales Soar 255% in May, Led by EV6, EV9, and Niro

The electric revolution is charging forward at Kia Canada. In a remarkable display of market momentum, the automaker has shattered its previous sales records for electric vehicles (EVs) this May. With 1,899 units sold, Kia's EV sales skyrocketed by an impressive 255% compared to the same month last year. This surge isn't just a flash in the pan—it's a clear indicator of the growing appetite for electric mobility among Canadian drivers.

Leading the Charge: Kia's EV Lineup

At the forefront of this electric sales boom is the EV6, Kia's flagship electric model. With 887 units sold in May alone, the EV6 has captured the imagination of drivers seeking a blend of style, performance, and eco-consciousness. Hot on its heels is the EV9, Kia's electric SUV offering, which found 515 new homes. Rounding out the trio, the Niro EV contributed a solid 497 units to the total.

Provincial Powerhouses

The EV surge isn't confined to a single region—it's a nationwide phenomenon. Quebec leads the pack with a staggering 352% increase in EV sales compared to May 2023. British Columbia and Ontario aren't far behind, posting gains of 117% and 113% respectively. Even provinces less traditionally associated with EV adoption are showing remarkable growth, with Alberta up 130% and New Brunswick seeing a 283% jump.

Accelerating Towards Annual Goals

Kia Canada's EV sales performance isn't just impressive for a single month—it's putting the company well ahead of its yearly targets. With 6,138 EVs sold year-to-date, Kia has already achieved 78% of its total EV sales goal for 2023. This pace suggests that the company is poised to easily surpass last year's record of 7,883 units.

The Bigger Picture

The significance of this sales surge extends beyond just numbers on a balance sheet. EVs now account for nearly a quarter of Kia Canada's total sales, highlighting a shift in consumer preferences towards more sustainable transportation options. As Elias El-Achhab, VP and COO of Kia Canada, notes, "The continuous growth of our EV sales is demonstrating that the shift to a more sustainable future is indeed happening."

Looking Ahead

With such strong performance in the first half of the year, Kia Canada appears well-positioned for continued success in the EV market. As more Canadians embrace electric driving, Kia's combination of award-winning designs and cutting-edge technology—like ultra-fast charging capabilities—seems to be resonating with consumers across the country.

The road ahead for electric vehicles in Canada looks increasingly bright, with Kia at the forefront of this transformative journey in personal transportation.
