Kia America has pulled the wraps off the refreshed 2025 K5 midsize sedan at the iconic Chicago Auto Show, revealing a host of significant updates and enhancements that promise to elevate the vehicle's sporty appeal. From design tweaks that accentuate its bold presence to technology upgrades that enhance the driving experience, the 2025 K5 is poised to make a statement in the competitive midsize sedan segment.
Design Evolution
The 2025 K5's design updates are hard to miss, with Kia's designers taking inspiration from the brand's "Opposites United" design philosophy. The most striking addition is the new standard Star Map LED front DRLs, which cut a distinctive eyebrow shape over the LED headlights, adding a touch of aggression to the front fascia. The lower grille has also been redesigned, with variations across trim levels – lower trims feature a darkened air intake, while the GT flaunts flared satin-metal-look fins that accentuate the honeycomb grille pattern.
Around the back, the taillights mimic the angular shape of the front DRLs, extending across the wide deck lid and casting a bright red glow beneath the new integrated spoiler. The lower fascia has also been refreshed, with the GT boasting triangular satin-finish fins that complement the quad-tip muffler garnish.
Complementing the exterior updates is a range of sporty multi-spoke alloy wheels, with sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches, depending on the trim level. The GT, in particular, stands out with its 19-inch wheels wrapped in performance-focused Pirelli P-Zero tires and eye-catching bright green brake calipers.
Interior Refinements
Step inside the 2025 K5, and you'll be greeted by a host of tech-savvy upgrades that elevate the driving experience. The centerpiece is the new available single-pane curved display, which seamlessly integrates a 12-inch instrument screen with a 12.3-inch touchscreen navigation unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across the lineup, ensuring seamless connectivity with your smartphone.
Kia's new Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system promises faster processing and higher fidelity, while the addition of Over The Air (OTA) updates ensures that your K5 stays up-to-date with the latest software enhancements.
Ergonomic improvements extend to the revised HVAC/audio-access display, which can be toggled between the two functions with a simple touch. The center console has also been revamped, featuring larger cupholders and a wireless charging pad, along with USB-C charge ports for both front and rear passengers.
Enhanced Powertrain
Under the hood, the 2025 K5 receives a significant boost in the form of a new 2.5-litre normally aspirated four-cylinder engine. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain offers an 11-horsepower increase over the previous 1.6-litre turbo, delivering a robust 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. For those who need added traction in inclement weather, the GT-Line trim offers an available all-wheel-drive option.
The range-topping GT, however, retains its potent 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which churns out an impressive 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, the GT promises an exhilarating driving experience befitting its performance-oriented persona.
As Kia America's COO & EVP Steven Center aptly puts it, the 2025 Kia K5 continues to offer a "unique and striking alternative" in an otherwise stalwart segment, solidifying its position as a versatile and compelling choice for those seeking a five-passenger midsize sedan with a sporty edge.
